About the International Road Safety Council (IRSC)

The International Road Safety Council (IRSC) is a global, policy-driven organization dedicated to eliminating preventable road deaths and injuries worldwide. Founded on the principle that road safety is a fundamental human right, IRSC brings together governments, civil society, researchers, and private sector leaders to drive coordinated, evidence-based action across borders.

Each year, over 1.19 million lives are lost on the world’s roads—an unacceptable reality that demands urgent and collective response. IRSC exists to change that. As a federated international council, we serve as a global platform for policy influence, knowledge exchange, and strategic collaboration, empowering countries to implement scalable, life-saving road safety solutions.

Our work focuses on advancing proven frameworks such as the Safe System approach, strengthening legislation and enforcement, building first responder capacity, and expanding data-driven programs that deliver measurable impact. Through our global network of national affiliates and regional chapters, we amplify local efforts while shaping international standards and advocacy.

We envision a world where zero road fatalities is not just an aspiration, but a global standard—where every government, institution, and community shares accountability for every life on every road.

IRSC: A global council for every road, every life.
